Vein conditions

Introduction

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that most commonly appear in the legs. They typically have a blue or purple color and are defined by having a diameter of three millimeters or more. These veins become visible beneath the skin when blood pools inside them, causing them to stretch and bulge.

Under normal conditions, veins have one-way valves that help blood flow back to the heart and prevent backward flow. In people with varicose veins, these valves become weak or incompetent, allowing blood to leak backward and accumulate in the vein. Over time, this buildup causes the vein to enlarge, twist, and become visibly swollen. While varicose veins are often considered a cosmetic concern, they can also cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms.
Risks

Causes of Varicose Veins

Multiple Factors: Varicose veins can develop from aging, genetics, hormones, lifestyle, and certain health conditions.

Health Conditions: Issues such as high blood pressure, heart problems, or previous blood clots (DVT) can contribute to vein damage. Additionally, Chronic Inflammation, poor circulation, and dehydration may silently weaken vein function over time.

Screening and
Diagnosis

Diagnosing vein conditions involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, and non-invasive imaging tests.

Early screening can prevent complications. If you have symptoms or visible veins, it's best to get evaluated early by a vein specialist.

CEAP Classification

CEAP is the international system used to assess chronic venous disease (CVD) — a condition that often progresses gradually without treatment, from mild discomfort to more serious complications if left untreated.

This system ensures effective treatment is personalized and medically guided, not just cosmetic — helping improve both how your legs look and feel.

Which of these legs could have varicose veins?

Answer = all of the above

Vein treatments
With Dr.Salah kary

Early treatment of varicose veins not only improves the cosmetic appearance of your legs but also plays a crucial role in preventing symptom progression and complications from chronic venous insufficiency. The earlier the intervention, the more stable and effective the long-term clinical and aesthetic outcomes.
At Dr. Salah Kary’s clinic, we offer a full range of advanced treatment options tailored to each patient’s condition and needs, including:
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
A minimally invasive laser procedure that closes the affected veins without surgery. It is quick, virtually painless, and performed under local anesthesia, allowing for a fast return to daily activities.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
Similar to laser therapy, this technique uses radiofrequency energy to heat and close damaged veins. It is highly effective with long-lasting results and is done without surgical incisions.
ClariVein®
A minimally invasive treatment combining mechanical and chemical ablation to close varicose veins. It requires no heat or tumescent anesthesia, making it a comfortable and effective option.
Medical Glue Closure (Venaseal)
A cutting-edge, virtually painless procedure that seals veins using a special medical adhesive without the need for heat or extensive anesthesia.
Sclerotherapy
A treatment primarily for small and spider veins, involving injections of a solution that gradually closes the veins. It is a popular cosmetic option that can be done in multiple sessions.
Foam Sclerotherapy
Used for medium to larger veins, this involves injecting a foam sclerosant that precisely targets and closes problematic veins. It’s a non-surgical alternative for bigger varicose veins.
